Obituary

Clifford Clark Hunter, finished his last round on this earthly farm, passing away peacefully at the Altona Memorial Health Centre on March 12, 2025. Cliff battled cancer but his strength and stubbornness allowed him to leave this earth on his own terms.

Cliff was born on September 9, 1937, in Winnipeg.

Cliff farmed with his Dad, taking over the deeply rooted family farm in Green Ridge where his grandparents James & Barbra Hunter originally homesteaded in 1874.

In 1959 Cliff graduated with a Diploma in Agriculture from the University of Manitoba. He enjoyed working off the farm for few years as a Poultry inspector. Cliff loved his time teaching Farm Management and up-grading courses for the department of Agriculture.

On October 14, 1967, he married the love of his life, Irene Alice Hunter (nee Munroe). Together, they raised a family: son David (Billie Jo) Hunter of New Bothwell, daughter Sharon (Tom) Chubaty of Dominion City. And their cherished grandchildren: Jaymes, Sky, Graham, and Sarah Hunter. Abbey and Natalie Chubaty.

Cliff is survived by his brother Jim (Ruby) Hunter of Regina, sister Peggy Nako of Winnipeg, sister-in-laws Barbara Campbell of Collingwood, Ontario, and Sandra Wynenberg of Winnipeg. Cliff was predeceased by his parents, Clark and Jean Hunter.

Cliff was a pillar in the community serving on many boards over the years. He was a 4-H leader, founding president of the Southeast Beef Improvement Association, chairman of the Dominion City United Grain Growers, School Board for 11 years, 50 + years on the Green Ridge Church board, chairman of the Valley Pastoral Charge and more.

Cliff was a proud Masonic brother for over 55 years and a member of the Starbuck Lodge.

Cliff enjoyed sports, in his younger years playing and coaching hockey, football and baseball, then graduating to armchair coach in later years.

As busy as farm life was Cliff would take the time for the goods things in life. Cliff knew every critter on his land. He would take the time to stop and pick a bouquet of flowers for his wife, an act that was always appreciated.

A celebration of life will be held at 2 PM on Saturday March 22, 2025 at the Green Ridge United Church. Internment at the Green Ridge Cemetery at a later date.

So, here’s to Cliff Hunter, a man who left this world a little greener and a lot a brighter. He showed us that life, much like farming, isn’t just about the harvest but about the joy found in the daily tending. Cliff, you reaped a legacy of love, and for that, we are all eternally grateful.
