With heavy hearts, we are announcing the passing of Cari Ann Doerksen nee Heckert. She passed away at the age of 51 years, on Sunday, March 23, 2025, in Steinbach Bethesda Regional Health Centre, Steinbach, MB., surrounded by friends and family.
Cari is survived by her two daughters, Sara and Emily, her sister Toni (James), and her nieces and nephews and their children.
She was predeceased by her husband, Stan, her son Markus, her parents Ed & Grace, her brother Mike, and her sister Phyllis.
Cari was born on November 30, 1973, to her parents, Ed & Grace Heckert and grew up in the Steinbach area. She was baptized and confirmed in the Lutheran faith and attended church regularly.
Throughout her life, Cari worked at many dairy barns, milking cows, then spent years working at the hospital doing laundry. Later she enjoyed her time at the florist shop and sold Avon as a side hustle.
Cari met Stan Doerksen in 2003, resulting in a whirlwind romance. They were married on September 24, 2005, and bought a house together in Steinbach. After a few years of trying to have children, they had their beautiful son, Markus, who sadly passed away a week after being born. Shortly after, they were blessed with two beautiful daughters, Sara (August 3, 2010) and Emily (December 6, 2011). They have been her pride and joy ever since. After Stan’s sudden passing in 2016, Cari became the sole caregiver of her daughters. They loved playing at the park with her and watching shows like Jeopardy and Emily in Paris.
Cari was diagnosed with cancer in 2021 and underwent multiple different treatments over the course of the last four years.
The come and go viewing will be held on Thursday, March 27, 2025, from 7:00 p.m. to 9:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Friday, March 28, 2025, at 2:00 p.m., at St. Paul’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, 465 Henry St, Steinbach, MB.
