It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Robert Humphrey on Friday, March 21, 2025, at the young age of 71. Robert passed away unexpectedly but peacefully in his sleep. He was a loving husband, father, poppa, brother (+in-law), uncle, son-in-law, and friend.
Left to grieve deeply are his wife Wendy of 38 years, daughters Ashley Ashwell (Joe) and Sarah Banerd (Cody) and his precious grandchildren Maddex, Charlotte, Amelia, Harper and Olive with whom he shared many memories of fun and belly laughter engaged in joyful water gun fights and playing dress up!
Rob will be also missed by his six siblings and their families, Gwen, Paul (Ann), Barry (Cheryl), Donna, Janet (Steve) and Joan (Joe), sister-in-law Leslie Ann, mother-in-law June and brothers-in-law Doug and Gerald and his many nieces and nephews.
He was predeceased by his parents Dorothy and Borden, siblings Norma, Leonard, Mona, Joyce, Dale, and Darlene, nephew Parker, brothers-in-law Earl, Johnny, Danny, Bruce, Dennis, and Wendy’s father Murray, sister Linda and brother Donald.
As you can see, Rob came from a large family (a baker’s dozen), and they gathered often – most of them at the same time! There was never a dull moment especially when a deck of cards or the crokinole board appeared, and the competition was on. Rob thrived on being challenged to a game and was hard to beat. He was well known for changing the rules when things didn’t quite go in his favor.
He loved his entire family with passion, and his love for his girls went beyond measure. They were his world. He was an active dad – be it on the benches watching them play organized sports or organizing back yard soccer games himself for all the neighborhood kids. Summers were fun at the family cottage where he entertained the girls and their cousins on countless tubing excursions.
Rob grew up in Schumacher, Ontario and was an avid hockey player in his youth. He later traded his skates and hockey stick for curling shoes and a broom, enjoying years of camaraderie and competition with Wendy and their friends in club curling and bonspiels.
In 1994 Rob’s life was transformed when he became a Christian and dedicated his life to serving the Lord. His unwavering faith remained a source of praise and strength through all of life’s celebrations, trials and tribulations. It was soon after in 1995, he was off to Briercrest Bible college in Caronport, Saskatchewan where he and his family spent three good years meeting wonderful people while he studied. He spent the last 26 years living in Steinbach, Manitoba with his family.
Apart from the three years in college, Rob spent most of his working career in sales. He was a gifted salesman and enjoyed engaging with people regardless of whether he got the sale. Rob was honest and had the costumer’s best interest always. He had fond memories from his time spent working with IDC Communications and Solomon’s Furniture.
Rob was once an outgoing and spirited presence full of zest for life and shenanigans. Life with him was always an adventure. Though his later years brought challenges that made it difficult to enjoy life to the fullest, he continued to radiate kindness, compassion and unconditional love to those around him.
Robert, thank you for praying for us daily and loving us unconditionally. You blessed us abundantly. We will miss you forever till we meet again.
The livestreamed memorial service will be held on Saturday, May 3, 2025, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
