It is with heavy hearts we announce the passing of Alice Salter, beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, grandmother, and great grandmother on March 28, 2025 at the age of 84.
Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband Jim “Fred”, their children Donald (Laurie), Belynda (Patrick), their grandchildren Amanda (Dion), Wayne (Lindsay), Ryan (Brittany), Grace, Gavin and their great grandchildren Connor, Chelsea, Logan, Hannah, and Cameron. She also leaves behind her brothers Frances “Dewey” and Winston along with countless friends.
She is predeceased by her parents John and Elizabeth Walker, brother Joeseph “Joe”, sister Diane and infant sister Annie Elizabeth. I suspect at this moment, she and her sister are drinking tea, eating chocolate and listening to Rita MacNeil together.
Alice was born and grew up in Little Pond, Cape Breton. She joined the Canadian Army Medical Corp. and earned her RPN. This is also where she met her husband and their journey together began. They lived in many places including Vancouver, Morden, Miami MB, Grand Falls NL, Carmen, Stephenfield and finally to Lynn Lake. She continued her nursing career in Lynn Lake until her retirement at the age of 60.
She was creative and loved to learn new skills including knitting, cross stitch, sewing and quilting to name a few. There was always a project on the go and a new one being dreamt up.
Though Alzheimer’s took her memory, it never took her spirit. She continued to laugh, sing, read, and use the sharp wit that we all knew her for.
We would like to extend our deepest gratitude to those that cared for Alice over these last few years. To the staff at Lynn Lake hospital, the staff at Flin Flon hospital and care home, the staff at Red River Valley Lodge in Morris; thank you for the kindness and compassion that you extended both to her and our family.
As per her wishes, there will be no memorial service. There will be a family grave side gathering at a later date.
