Obituary

Caroline Rempel Goossen was born to Jacob G and Elizabeth (Loewen) Rempel on August 8, 1933, in the Morris, Manitoba area. She slipped away in the early morning hours of Tuesday, April 8, 2025, at Maplewood Manor in Steinbach, Manitoba. She reached the age of 91 years.

She had a happy childhood and attended the local community school. She gave her heart to God at a young age and was baptized into the Church of God in Christ, Mennonite on December 16, 1945. Her faith was precious to her and she was steadfast until the end.

Caroline spent some years working at the local hospital and at Rosenort Coop. Being the youngest in a family of eleven children she became a special aunt to her nieces and nephews. Both her parents had passed away a few years before her marriage so she had a close relationship with her siblings.

Caroline was married to Herbert Goossen on August 26, 1966. They moved her house onto his farm yard near Rosenort, where they set up housekeeping. They enjoyed a close relationship for over 58 years and were blessed with four sons. She was a loving mother who provided a secure home for her family. Mom was an industrious person and cooked a lot of good food for her family and the many guests who passed through their home. She loved and appreciated all her daughters-in-law and the grandchildren that joined the family. Later they moved to a retirement house a quarter of a mile away. In 2021 they moved to the Rosenort Heritage Apartments where they appreciated the wonderful care they received and enjoyed the scenic view out of their living room window. In November of 2024 they moved to full care at Maplewood Manor where they also received excellent care. Mom was very appreciative and hardly ever complained.

Mom was a no-nonsense person in many ways but also had a great sense of humor. She loved a good laugh. Even though she lost some of her memory with dementia, she still knew when to insert the one-liners that amused us all. One of Mom’s favorite pastimes was visiting on the phone with relatives and friends. Mom had a terrific memory for birthdays and made many phone calls and sent many cards for family birthdays.

Those left to cherish special memories are her devoted husband Herbert; sons: Darrel and Esther of Rosenort, Manitoba; Mervin and Marilyn of Pine River, Manitoba; Earl and Tana of Rosenort, Manitoba; Edric and Thelma of Grandview, Manitoba; sixteen grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

She leaves one brother: Bill Rempel, and three sisters-in-law: Dorothy Rempel, Edna Rempel, and Marina Rempel. Herbert’s family: Elaine Toews, Tina and Earvey Friesen, Mildred Cherewan, Peter and Iris Goossen, Jocelyn Vann, Grace and Martin Penner, Abe and Olive Goossen, Glenn and Myrna Goossen, Lucille and Willie Thiessen.

As a family, we extend deep appreciation to all of Mom’s caregivers the last number of years.
