Obituary

It is with profound sadness that we announce the passing of Wayne Bell in Steinbach, MB on October 1, 2019. Following a 12-year journey with Cancer, Wayne left us peacefully, as he had wished, at home surrounded by his loving wife, and dog Tucker.

Beloved Husband of Mary Jane (Hiebert); he will be missed by his sisters Barbara Bell; Wanda Bell & Art Lockhart; father in law David Hiebert, and MJ’s family: Barbara Dueck; Colleen & George Loewen; Ellen Hiebert & Murray Penner. He will be remembered by his nieces and nephews and their children, cousins and many, many wonderful friends.

He was predeceased by his parents Gordon Bell and Hellen Smith; his mother in law Mary Hiebert and his brother in law, Dietmar Dueck.

Born Gordon Wayne Bell on Friday the 13th in 1953, and raised in Killarney, Manitoba, he attended Killarney School, followed by Red River College. Wayne excelled at sports, especially Football in high school, and he quickly developed a life-long love of Golf. Wayne celebrated 2 holes-in-one and continues to hold the modern-day record with a 29 on the front nine at the Killarney Golf Course.

Wayne lived life to the fullest with many passions, the greatest of which were golf, woodworking, and being at the house at the lake in Killarney. He loved his wife, dogs, travelling and Miller High Life Beer. He enjoyed hosting family and friends, and we are grateful to have been able to celebrate his 66th birthday this past September on Friday, the 13th.

He celebrated life right to the end, with no regrets; showing us by example not only how to live, but also how to die with courage and grace. He approached cancer and his mortality with bravery and candor that were open and inspiring. He taught us so much.

The family expresses sincere thanks to Dr. Joel Gingerich and Cheryl Greaves at CancerCare Manitoba; Dr. Curtis Krahn and the team at CancerCare in Steinbach; EMS & RCMP in Steinbach. Thank you to the many friends and family who have provided love and support.

A Celebration of Wayne’s life will be held on Thursday, October 10, 2019, at 1:00 p.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel Steinbach, MB. Interment will be held at a later date.
