Obituary

On Monday August 9, 2021, our loving mother, grandmother, and great grandmother Helen Rempel left this earth to touch the face of God.

Left to cherish her memory is her husband Bill (William), with whom she shared 66 years of married life. Helen is survived by three sons and three daughters: Rhonda, Gerry (Kim), Lori (Larry), Ken (Lili), Andrea (Adolph) and Nathan (Tricia) 18 grandchildren and their spouses, 22 great grandchildren, daughter in law Rae Lynn Rempel and son in law Bob Martens.

Mom is also survived by her sister Anne Flores, sister in laws, Eva, Audrey and Anne as well as the extended Schultz and Rempel families.

Mom was predeceased by her parents Aron and Anna Schultz, foster parents Jacob and Maria Wiebe, brothers Aaron, Frank, Peter, John, Jack, Ben, Jake (Wiebe), and sisters Mary and Margaret.

When mom was 9 months of age, her mother passed away due to tuberculosis. Her uncle Jacob and aunt Maria took her into their home in Niverville and became her foster parents. Mom enjoyed a peaceful childhood, visiting with the locals as they came in to get their mail, playing with her cousin Betty who lived next door, and the occasional visit to her Schultz siblings on the farm north of Niverville.

Mom was a great complement to our dad and was a great support to him as he juggled the roles of earning a living and being in the ministry. Their marriage was a true partnership that continued to grow even as they both began to experience significant health challenges. Mom also filled the role of being an Oma with excellence, creating many warm memories for us.

Mom’s faith maintained a sense of winsomeness despite her deteriorating health and the challenges of life. She is well qualified to echo the following words of the apostle Paul:

I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith. Now there is in store for me the crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous Judge, will award to me on that day—and not only to me, but also to all who have longed for his appearing.

Our family would like to thank the staff at the Niverville Credit Union Manor for taking such good care of our mom as well as mom’s neighbor Anne Krahn, who was a kind friend to mom.

A public viewing will be held on Saturday, August 14, 2021, from 2:00 to 4:00 pm at Crossings Funeral Care, 40 North Gate Drive, Hwy 12 N Steinbach, MB.
