Obituary

Arthur Rempel passed away on December 29th after a long battle with heart disease.

It is with sadness that the family announces the passing of their beloved husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather, Arthur Rempel of Winnipeg, Manitoba. Left to cherish his memory are his wife of 13 years Louise; daughters Diane (Dennis) Hicks of Winnipeg, Kathy (Doug) Quiring of Dalmeny, SK, and Irene (Dave) Klassen of Winnipeg; sons Ken (Lisa) Rempel of St. Andrews, MB and Donald (Andrea Furness) Rempel of Winnipeg; grandchildren Mark, Shannon, Shawn, Leanne, Sarah, Jolene, Lauren, Lesley, Lisa, Chelsea, Jack and Carter; great-grandchildren Ellie, Kelsey, Arthur, Douglas and Eric; Louiseā€™s family, Carla Toews, Eleanore Busby, Ed Toews and their families. Arthur was predeceased by his infant son Douglas Arthur Rempel in 1951 and his wife Norma (Epp) Rempel in 2003.

Arthur was born in McAuley, Manitoba to Arthur Herman and Elizabeth (Funk) Rempel. His mother passed away when Arthur was a young preschooler. This left him alone with his sister Tena (Ferris), brother George Rempel and twin sisters Elsie (Cymbalist) and Erna Rempel. Later his father remarried Agnes (Penner) Rempel and this brought four more siblings into the family, sister Mary (Letkeman) and brothers Herman, Herb and Peter Rempel. Arthur has been predeceased by his brothers George, Herman, Peter and sisters Elsie and Erna.

Arthur married Norma (Epp) Rempel from Steinbach, Manitoba in 1950 and that same year he started working with CP Rail until 1958. He had many stories from the years working on the trains, which he loved to share. He left CP Rail to start his own business, thus Rempel Window Installation was created. As Art installed windows, Norma managed the office work, along with raising their children. He was very proud of all the success his hard work brought to his life. It afforded him the means to provide a wonderful life for his family on the ranch, at the cottage and many wonderful vacations. Arthur was a devoted husband and father who worked very hard to give his wife and children a life that was much easier than the one he had grown up with.

Arthur was an adventurer who loved the outdoors. He was an avid hunter and fisherman. He loved to travel with family and friends. Most of all he loved the cottage lot at White Lake in Manitoba where he built a cabin with his dad in 1959. In 1984 the old cabin was taken down and Dad built his dream cottage and boathouse where he spent some of the best days of his life. He knew every rock, bend, cove and fishing hotspot of White Lake and spent endless days trolling his boat with sunflower seeds and rod.

After Norma passed away suddenly in 2003 he was very lonely. He married Louise Gerig in September of 2004 and together they had a wonderful life filled with love, traveling to Hawaii and many road trips. They spent many long lazy days at the lake and enjoyed a blessed retirement together.

He gave generously of himself to all his family, his church and his many friends. He had a strong faith in God and never waivered from this. We take comfort knowing that he now resides with Him in Heaven.

Celebration of Life will be on Thursday, January 4th, 2017 at 11:00am, at Portage Avenue Mennonite Brethern Church, 1420 Portage Avenue Winnipeg, Manitoba.
