Obituary

Peter Isaac Penner, born May 21, 1927, near Shaunavon, Saskatchewan, left his earthly body on Tuesday, January 30, 2018, to meet with Jesus, his eternal Lord, and his wife Lydia of 57 years. Peter, the eldest of seven children, was born to Peter P. and Helen Penner (nee Giesbrecht). He spent his early years being raised according to the traditions honored by the Mennonite Brethren Church. At 13 it was discovered that his hip kept slipping out of the socket. His limited mobility brought on a determination to succeed at life and Peter, affectionately called “P.I”, became a very strong and capable worker and a true employee in the window manufacturing industry.

In 1945, Peter met the lovely Lydia Irene Krause who quickly became the love of his life. Peter and Lydia were married in June 1946, and together raised seven children. Peter and Lydia moved from Saskatchewan to the Steinbach, Manitoba area, where they made it a priority to retain connections with the local church. He served the church first as a Sunday School teacher then later as a deacon or elder for many years.
Lydia left her frail earthly frame in 2003, leaving Peter on his own. Peter’s latter years were invested into volunteering at the Steinbach MCC Thrift Store as well as in a family run business, Wash n’ Go, in Steinbach. He served faithfully, most weeks working full-time hours, doing so for many years and asking nothing in return.

Left to mourn his passing are: Peter’s children: Herman (Eva), of Steinbach, Hilda Richardson (Gary) of Brandon, Ken (Debbie) of Marchand, Lois Dorn (Gerry) Of Kalahoo, Joyce Schroeder (Peter) of Mitchell, George (AnnMarie) of Niverville, and Marc of Steinbach; 17 grandchildren; more than 30 great- grandchildren and great- great-grandchildren; and Peter’s siblings: Abe (Lilian), Clara Harms (Peter), Ben (Claudia) and Martha Fehr (Ike).

He was predeceased by his brother Henry and a sister.
