Marie (Mary) Loewen Giesbrecht passed away Sunday evening, February 18, 2018, at Broadway Pentecostal Lodge in Vancouver, BC., at the age of 95.
Mary was predeceased by her parents, Jacob F. Giesbrecht and Anna T. Loewen of Prairie Rose, MB, and all of her siblings: Anna (David) Thiessen, Tina Giesbrecht, Bernard (Leah) Giesbrecht, Jacob (Olga) Giesbrecht, Margaret Giesbrecht, William Giesbrecht, Cornelius (Irene) Giesbrecht, Elizabeth Giesbrecht and Peter Giesbrecht.
She is survived by many nieces and nephews who were very dear to her and for whom she prayed for faithfully.
Mary was a member of the Prairie Rose EMC in Landmark, Manitoba. She began work in various places in Manitoba as an LPN.
Between 1949 and 1952, she attended Bethany Bible College in Hepburn, Saskatchewan where she completed high school along with her biblical studies. Shortly after she was commissioned as a missionary nurse to French West Africa for a five-year term, stopping first in Neufchâtel, Switzerland to learn French.
Upon her return, she trained at Winnipeg General Hospital as an RN, graduating with the class of 1963B. She became very involved with the Nurses Christian Fellowship of Canada.
In 1965 she moved to Portland, Oregon where she spent many years, with brief stays in Japan and Australia.
When Mary retired from nursing she returned to Canada and settled in Vancouver where she continued to serve and bless the lives of those around her until her passing.
She will be missed.

The funeral service for Mary (Marie) Giesbrecht will be held on Saturday, March 3, 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, 162 Hwy 52 W., Steinbach, MB. Interment will follow at Prairie Rose EMC Cemetery, Landmark, MB.
