It is with thankfulness of a life well lived that we announce the peaceful passing of Anna Krahn in the early morning of Tuesday, May 30, 2023.
Mourning her loss are grandsons Lindsay (Barbara) and Avery, her great-grandchildren Maksymilian and Alina, as well as many relatives across southern Manitoba.
She was predeceased by her daughter Janet, granddaughter Chantal, and her husband of 65 years, George.
Anna was born and raised on a farm near Tourond, MB. After her mother died of tuberculosis when Anna was three years old, her father and older brothers raised her. By the time Anna was a young teen, she had taken on the household chores and cooking. After her older brother took over the family farm, Anna and her father moved to Niverville where she eventually met George.
Anna and George were introduced by friends in the early 1950s and enjoyed dancing at the local community hall during their dating years. They were married August 14, 1954, and welcomed Janet into their family in late 1960.
Anna found her first job in Mr. Wien’s grocery store. However, for 30 years, Anna worked at the post office until the age of 65. In addition, she wrote a regular weekly column for The Carillon, called the Niverville News, which helped keep residents up-to-date on local events. Just because Anna turned 65 didn’t mean that she retired. She and George continued to provide janitorial services to various businesses into their 80s.
Anna and George attended the Niverville Mennonite Church where Anna worked on the Ladies Aid committee and taught Sunday School. Up until her stroke in 2018, Anna volunteered with the United Church quilting group, sewing many blankets with the group, or on her own, to raise funds for mission projects or the Thrift store. Anna was dedicated to her community, church, and family who remember her selflessness and quick sense of humour. She loved to be productive and to connect with people from around town.
The family expresses gratitude to the staff at the Heritage Life Personal Care Home and the Niverville Credit Union Manor for the years of service, companionship, and assistance they provided Anna.
The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Tuesday, June 6th, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at the Niverville Community Fellowship Church, 85 2 St. S, Niverville, MB, with public viewing one hour prior to the service. Lunch will be served at the church following interment at the Niverville Hespeler Cemetery.
