Obituary

Doreen was a gentle soul with a great sense of humour always ready with compliments to her caregivers and visitors. She loved chocolate cream pie with a healthy dollop of whip cream and was all smiles if you brought a slice along for her. She loved playing BINGO and won many colourful flowers which the staff would lovingly place in her hair. She also enjoyed colouring many pictures with her coveted pink pencil crayon. We can’t imagine what life at Rest Haven will be like without you there. Mom had spent the last 11 years of her life at Rest Haven and never missed an opportunity to let her caregivers know how much she appreciated them and would comment daily that they were all angels.

Mom slipped away peacefully at Rest Haven to her forever heavenly home on Tuesday, October 31, 2023 where she will be reunited with her husband Doug Reddekop, her infant son Elroy Gene, her granddaughter Becki Penner, brother in law Dave Dawson, her loving parents Frank and Mary (Harms) Dueck as well as her father and mother-in-law Jake and Agatha Reddekop.

Mom is survived by her 4 loving daughters Cindy (Dave) Mendel, Wanda (Roger) Blanchard, Myra (Ken) Thorsen and Gloria (Gil) Dueck. She leaves behind 11 grandchildren, 23 great grandchildren and 10 siblings: John (Sandra) Dueck, Peter (Sally) Dueck, Lawrence (Susie) Dueck, Leona (Peter) Penner, Mary (Larry) Plett, Evelyn (Leonard) Martens, Glen (Evelyn) Dueck, Bernice (Allen) Kroeker, Betty Dawson, Eldon & (Lynn) Dueck.

Mom was known for her kind and gentle manner. She had a way of making people feel loved and accepted without judgment. Our mom was selfless and generous and gave her heart and soul to her four daughters and later their growing families, always sharing her baking and giving gifts and cards.

Throughout her life Doreen enjoyed singing, playing guitar, sewing, baking, cooking, colouring and thrift store shopping. She had a very funny sense of humor and would see things in a different sort of light, often laughing out loud before the punchline.

Mom was stronger than we knew… she was braver than we could imagine… she was selfless and giving. She was patient. She was loving. She was so very kind.

We want to express our heartfelt gratitude to the staff at Rest Haven for their loving care of our dear mother.

A livestreamed Private Memorial Service will be held at 2:00 pm on Saturday, November 18, 2023 at Crossings Funeral Care. For those not invited to the service, the family invites you to join them through livestream.

Mom loved the colour pink so let’s all add a “dollop” of pink to our attire.
