David Ginter

Obituary

David (Dave) Ginter was born February 24, 1937 to Diedrich and Maria (Siemens) Ginter, on their homestead in the RM of Hanover, Manitoba.

Growing up in a rural area in the late 1930’s and during the 1940’s meant at least one thing for dad and his siblings: everyone learned that you needed to work hard if your family was to survive. That hard work ethic stayed with dad for his entire life. From his early days working on the turkey farm to the major portion of his career with Southeast Forest Products and even into his retirement years, dad worked long hours to get done what needed to be done. This work ethic empowered dad to build his own house. The house which we grew up in northeast of Blumenort was built, with the help of very few friends, by dad’s own hands; and mostly on evenings and weekends. We moved into the house even though it had no doors on the bedrooms or bathroom and continued to build as we could.

Mom and dad moved into town sometime after dad’s retirement and the projects and long hours continued but now it involved volunteering at the Mennonite Heritage Village and making small projects, eventually becoming well known for the pens that he made. Aside from the projects, Dad adored his grandchildren and great grandchildren. It put the biggest smile on his face if he could go out for breakfast with any one of them. They, along with his volunteering and his faith were the most important things in his life.

In the very early morning hours of Tuesday November 7, 2023, Dave Ginter passed away at Bethesda Regional Hospital.

He is survived by one brother and one sister, his son Kelvin (Kathy) and Jared (Denae) and Carissa (Theo); his son Roger (Joelah) and Joel (Mady), Aaron (Madyson), Michaela (Brady), Sarah and Anna and their families. Together, we would like to say thank you to the Doctors, Nurses and Staff at Bethesda Hospital for providing excellent care for dad.

David was predeceased by his loving wife Nellie in May of 2020, as well as numerous brothers and sisters.

Dad/Grandpa/Friend – you will forever be loved and missed by all of us, and remembered fondly every time we use one of your pens.

A come and go viewing will be held on Friday, November 10, 2023, from 7:00 pm – 8:30 pm at Crossings Funeral Care.

A livestreamed funeral service will be held at 1:30 pm on Saturday, November 11, 2023, at Crossings Funeral Care, followed by a time of fellowship in the reception centre. A private family interment will take place at the Ridgewood EMC Church Cemetery in Giroux, MB.
