Obituary

It is with profound sorrow that we announce the departure of our cherished husband, father, grandfather and brother, David Keith Penner, who passed away on Friday, November 10th, 2023.

Fondly remembered by his devoted wife, Mary Ann, and survived by his daughter Lindsay, sons Carson (Renee), and Kyle (Tina), as well as grandchildren Brock, Kimber, Connor, and Maddox. David was predeceased by his parents, Stanford and Rose Marie Penner.

Born on December 16th, 1957, in Hudson Bay, Saskatchewan, David spent his early years in National Mills before relocating to Landmark in 1969, where he later met his high school sweetheart, Mary Ann. They exchanged vows on December 30th, 1976, embarking on a resilient and loving journey that spanned 47 years.

David’s professional endeavors were diverse, from roofing alongside his uncle Leonard to pursuing computer programming at Herzing College. Despite never utilizing his programming skills, he and Mary Ann ventured to Regina, where he managed a computer store with his uncle Ken, steadfastly avoiding allegiance to the Roughriders. Subsequently, he operated a video store before returning to Manitoba in 1986.

Back in Manitoba, David immersed himself in selling Atari gaming consoles and televisions before venturing into the telecommunications industry. Co-founding IDC Communications with his brother-in-law Lorne Plett, they defied skeptics and evolved into the largest privately-run Bell MTS provider in Manitoba over 30 years, boasting 23 locations and 130 employees. Known for going above and beyond for his staff, David’s commitment was unwavering.

While grappling with life’s challenges, David triumphed over addiction, seeking solace at Teen Challenge in 2008 and maintaining sobriety since. Beyond the confines of work, he relished golf, spirited debates, collecting sports cards, attending family sporting events, savoring Mary Ann’s culinary creations, and wintering in Florida.

A man of striking handsomeness and dignity, David exemplified courage, perseverance, and integrity throughout his life. His enduring lessons will resonate through generations. As we grieve our loss, we deeply miss you, Dave.

The memorial service will be held Wednesday, November 15, 2023 at 1:00 p.m., at Prairie Rose EMC, Landmark, MB.
