Obituary

Jacob Stoesz was born in the Steinbach Hospital July 13, 1942, to his parents Peter & Agatha Stoesz of Silberfeld, Manitoba. He passed away peacefully on the morning of Thursday, November 23, 2023, at the age of 81, when his tired and failing body gave up the struggle.

He was predeceased by his parents, his younger brother Henry Stoesz and one brother-in-law Abe Friesen.

He leaves behind two sisters, Anne Friesen of Steinbach, Mary & Jake Peters of Pinawa, one sister-in-law Eileen Stoesz of Medicine Hat, Alberta, nieces, nephews and their families as well as cousins, and many friends.

Jacob grew up on the family farm and attended the Shakespeare School nearby. He was baptized in the CMC Conference and later transferred to the Steinbach Sommerfelder Mennonite Church where he attended faithfully as long as health allowed.

He worked on the family farm even after his parents retired and moved to Mitchell in 1977. Later, when the farm was sold Jacob got a job with the RM of Hanover on a road maintenance crew.

Upon retirement, he moved to Woodhaven Manor in 2005 where he stayed till 2019. Due to declining health he moved to Cedarwood Supportive Housing. Then in August 2022 he moved to Resthaven Care Home.

Wherever he lived Jacob loved to meet and greet people. He was always interested in what was going on in their lives. He will be missed.

The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Wednesday, November 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with viewing our hour prior.

Interment to follow at Heritage Cemetery, Steinbach, MB.
