Born November 19, 1938, in Winnipeg, MB., grew up in Ste. Agathe, MB.
It is with great sadness that the family of Alice Roy announce her passing on Saturday, December 23, 2023, at the age of 85.
She will be dearly missed by her husband of 66 years, Rosaire; her children: Denis (Joy), Mariette, Nicole, Claire (Daniel), Suzanne (Gilles), Renald, and Joanne; and her 19 grandchildren: Melissa, Brittany, Michelle, Olivia, Nadine, Janelle, Colin, Darrel, Brigitte, Roxanne, Stephanie, Leanne, Justin, Martin, Crystal, Kalie, Misgana, Katiana, and Nikolai; as well as 25 great-grandchildren, and one great-great-granddaughter.
Alice was predeceased by her son Maurice, her parents Albert and Suzanne Lecuyer, her brothers Marcel, Andy, and Henri, sister-in-law Irene Lecuyer, niece Denise Lecuyer, nephew Robert Lecuyer, son-in-law Luc Tessier, parents-in-law Antonio and Marie Louise Roy, and several other members of the Roy family.
She is survived by her siblings: Gerard, Bernard (Lois), Paul (Diane), Rose (Ted), Ron (Yvette), Cecile (Robert), Joe (Yvette), George (Darlene), Diane (Gilbert), and Maria; sisters-in-law: Claire, Rita, and Pat; and numerous nieces and nephews, whom she loved dearly. She is also survived by several brothers-in-law, sisters-in-law, and nieces and nephews from the Roy side of the family.
Despite her large family, Alice always made time for everyone. Providing support and love for her family was always a priority. She had a thoughtful and compassionate heart, and an unwavering love of caring for others. She loved to love on people. Alice was a dedicated wife, mother, grandmother, sister, sister-in-law, and friend to many. She treasured her children and grandchildren and embraced every moment with them.
If she had a motto, it would be “Do what is right and do what is kind. Be kind and help others. The world can always use one more kind person.”
Her life was a living example of Ephesians 4:32 “And be kind and compassionate to one another, forgiving one another, just as God also forgave you in Christ.”
It would be wrong to say that Alice lost her battle because she never stopped fighting. No matter how sick she was, she was always determined. When anyone else would have given up, Alice stayed strong. She taught us what resilience and perseverance truly look like.
Alice will be remembered for her wonderful sense of humour and joie de vivre, as was common to the Lecuyer clan. Until the last few years, Alice lived her life to the fullest. She loved to help with bingo at L’Accueil Colombien in St. Boniface or Chalet Malouin in St. Malo, volunteering at the thrift store in St. Pierre, or helping out in whatever capacity she could. She loved singing in the church choir and watching her favourite sport of curling. But most of all, she enjoyed playing cards or any other board game with family and friends.
Alice was very hardworking and had the heart of a true servant, always ready, willing, and able to help in any way. Even as a young girl she selflessly worked alongside her mother helping to raise her large family. She lived at home until she married Rosaire and settled in Otterburne to raise her own family.
The family would like to thank the doctors, nurses, and staff at Le Repos Jolys in St. Pierre who tirelessly cared for Alice over the past several months.
We will always carry her memory in our hearts.
The funeral mass will be held on Saturday, January 20, 2024, at 11:00 a.m. at Paroisse Saint Viateur, 37 Main Street, Otterburne, Manitoba, followed with lunch at the Otterburne Hall.
Interment will take place at a later date.
