Luella Blatz, aged 82 years, of Winnipeg, MB., passed away on Wednesday, April 10, 2024, at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB.
Luella Harder was born September 27, 1941, the first daughter and third child of seven to Deidrich and Susan Harder from Horndean and Ridgeville, MB. She had a close and loving family in which she was taught about God and learned to love Him, and at a young age accepted Jesus as her Lord. She attended Winnipeg Bible College (Providence) for one year and afterwards went to nursing school earning her LPN license. After marrying her childhood sweetheart Leonard Dyck from Stuartburn, MB., they joined SIM (Sudan Interior Mission) along with their two year old daughter, Kim, Len serving as a pilot and Luella as a nurse in Nigeria. Luella served a total of 12 years in Nigeria during which time she worked as a nurse, bookkeeper for SIMAIR, teacher of religion/Bible in government schools, and dorm parent at Kent Academy. Kevin, Kendra and Kerry joined their family during this time. Sadly, she buried Kevin (infant) in 1971, and her beloved husband, Leonard in 1974. In 1981, Luella and her family of four moved back to Winnipeg.
Back in Canada, Luella worked at Holy Family Nursing Home, until 2001, working mainly nights, which enabled her to have the most time with her children. It was in 1989 that she agreed to meet John Blatz, another member at their church, Christian Fellowship Chapel, for coffee. This coffee meeting led to an engagement six months later, followed by marriage five months later, on June 30, 1990, resulting in the family of four becoming a family of nine, which has continued to grow through marriage and births.
Several years later, with the nest being empty, Luella and John joined an SIM team to teach English in Korea for three months. They came back looking 10 years younger. She has always been an active member in their church. She loved to walk and got John to join her almost every day when possible.
Luella enjoyed the arrival of each grandchild and later, great-grandchild. She was very dedicated to praying for each family member.
She leaves behind her children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren and beloved husband of 33 years, John.
We anxiously anticipate when we will all be reunited with Jesus in Heaven. Her biggest heart cry was for all her loved ones to accept Jesus as their Lord and Savior so we could all be together again, where there will be no more tears.
The funeral service will be held on Saturday, April 13, 2024, at 11:30 a.m. at Christian Fellowship Chapel, Winnipeg, MB.
