It is with deep sadness that we announce the sudden passing of our dear son, brother and uncle; Wayne Jacob Poetker of Calgary, Alberta.
Wayne was born on December 15th, 1965 to Jacob and Elma Poetker of New Bothwell, Manitoba. Wayne grew up on the family farm and lived there until he decided to make the trek out west in 1991. While in Manitoba, he helped out on the farm and held various jobs some of which were working at MB Sugar with his dad and older brothers and worked in various trades such as construction and the heating and cooling business.
In 1991 he moved to Calgary and loved it there. During his 33 years in Calgary he spent most of that time on his bicycle. He worked as a bike courier in downtown Calgary, dodging vehicles, people and the bustle of the city. There were some injuries along the way but when he talked about his work you could tell he loved it. Once the 8 hours a day of cycling became too hard on his body he dedicated his time to the Salvation Army, where he worked for several years. He also became very interested in computers and realized a hidden passion here. He spent many hours learning everything he could about how computers function. He quickly became everyone’s go to for any and all things related to computers. From building new ones, fixing up old, removing viruses and teaching others the ins and outs.
Wayne leaves to cherish his memory forever, his parents Jacob and Elma Poetker of Steinbach; 3 brothers: Norman and Joan Poetker of Vita, Harvey and Bernice Poetker of New Bothwell, Brian Poetker and Robin Denis of New Bothwell; 3 sisters: Valerie and Randy Verestiuk of Mitchell, Angela and Brian Falk of Mitchell, Irene Poetker of Winnipeg; many nieces and nephews and friends. He was predeceased by his sister Marilyn in 2012, his brother Alvin in 2014 and his grandparents.
A combined livestreamed celebration of life for Wayne Poetker and his brother Brian Poetker will be held at 1:00 pm on Tuesday, August 6, 2024 at the Bothwell Christian Fellowship Church 20, Sara Ave, New Bothwell, MB. Followed by a reception.
