On the evening of Saturday August 3rd after a brief hospital stay at Bethesda Regional Health Centre in Steinbach, Manitoba, Pauline slipped away peacefully at the age of 96 years.
Pauline was predeceased by her husband Peter (Pasajluk) Palmer and her two daughters Linda Rynalski and Annette Quetglas.
Left to cherish Pauline’s memory are her son Peter Palmer (Ashley), daughter Marilyn Mordes (David), son-in-law Robert Rynalski; grandchildren Daniel Mordes (Jennifer), Benjamin Mordes (Sada) and Melinda Palmer: great-grandchildren Melanie, Diana and Maxadeli; sister Justine Ashton; nieces and nephews Eileen Alexander, Philip Nazaruk, Jennifer Shultz, Glen Ashton, Holly Letourneau, Jeff Ashton, Brenda Philp and family.
Our lovely, devoted mother was born in Sundown, Manitoba. Despite growing up in a rural community and only obtaining an 8th grade education she persevered, later moving to Ontario for employment where she met her future husband from Poland. She acquired many life skills and had a grounded commonsense approach to which she instilled in her children a solid work ethic, honesty, loyalty and kindness to everyone.
She was the rock of the family, our friend, our confidante, and this was especially true due to the passing of her husband in 1967 from pancreatic cancer. She put family first and raised 4 children on her own. She valued higher education for all her children to succeed in life. Her humour, wittiness and patience along with her strong faith set an example for all of us to follow. She never gave up and lived a wonderful life with so much joy.
Our mother loved to garden, cook, sew, mend clothing, and travel abroad. Her Ukrainian heritage and tradition made her strong and independent. She especially cherished her solo trip to Hong Kong in her younger years by venturing across the globe. Miraculously her aging did not restrict her travel plans in the later years, she made 3 roundtrip flights to Florida to visit family over the past 2 years with the first of her series of Florida roundtrips commencing at the age of 94 years.
We like to especially thank all the local home care staff here in Steinbach who gave so much care and dignity to Pauline in her final years. Their service was invaluable, and we cannot express enough gratitude to them for their dedication and care!
A livestreamed funeral service will be held at 2:00 pm on Wednesday, August 14, 2024 at Crossings Funeral Care. Viewing will be held one hour prior to the service. A private family interment will take place at the Our Lady of Mercy Cemetery in South Miami, Florida at a later date.
