Obituary

It is with heavy hearts that we announce the peaceful passing of our Dad, grandfather, great-grandfather, and friend, Gerard “Gerry” Vermette, on July 19, 2024, at Morris Hospital in Morris, Manitoba.

Gerry leaves behind to cherish his memory:

Sons: Shawn (Shelley) and Andrew (Carrie), and daughter, Shannon (Stefan)

Grandchildren: Chyanne, Hayley, Ava, Maisa, Levi, Everly, Breanna and Alyssa, and greatgrandchild, Carson.

Pre-deceased by Mother, Freda Tougas (nee Vermette; 2018-09-03). Survived by step-father, Victor Tougas, and sisters, Rachelle, Denise, Yvette (Kevin) and Paulette (Jeremy).

Pre-deceased by adoptive Mother Elmire Fiola (nee Morin; 2023-08-24) and adoptive Father Pierre Fiola (2000-06-06). Survived by brothers Paul, Marcel and Emil, and sisters, Rachel (Jim), Denise (Guy) and Colette (Leigh).

Survived by dearest friends Rod, Ron, Geraldine, Doreen, and Clemence. Pre-deceased by dearest friend Tom.

Gerry loved being on the open road whether in his semi or on his Harley. He enjoyed being outdoors in the hot sun, camping, boating and fishing with family. He was always at peace when he got to spend time by the ocean. He was overjoyed when the entire family vacationed together in Cuba and was looking forward to doing it again soon. He loved music and signing in his truck. Life was not always easy, but his light heartedness and sense of humor always shone through.

Our sincerest gratitude to the Fredericton first responders, the health care teams at Fredericton Hospital, Saint John Regional Hospital, Health Sciences Centre, Boundary Trails Health Centre and Morris Hospital who did right by Gerry. Extra special thanks to Jenna and Angel; we are eternally grateful for your extraordinary care and compassion.

A memorial celebration will be held for family and friends at St. Jean Baptiste Campground in St. Jean Baptiste, Manitoba, on August 30, 2024. Service at 3:00 pm, reception to follow.

“Come with Me”
Creator saw you getting tired
A cure was not to be.
So he put his arm around you
And whispered, “come with me.”
With tearful eyes we watched you
And saw you fade away.
Although we loved you dearly
We could not make you stay.
A golden heart stopped beating
Your tender hands at rest.
Creator took you home to prove to us
He only takes the best.
