Obituary

Lucianna Yestrau, age 84, from Ste. Anne, Manitoba passed away peacefully on Wednesday, September 11, 2024, at the Villa Youville in Ste. Anne, MB.

She is survived by her son Randy, his wife Teresa and their children Jessica (Erik) and Cassandra (Weichen), her brother Gerald (Janet) Mireault and many nieces and nephews.

She was predeceased by her beloved husband Frank and her parents Arsène and Alice Mireault.

Lucianna grew up outside of Lorette on the family farm which was at the end of today’s Mireault Lane. She was always a caring and compassionate person who loved spending time with her little brother and the aunties who lived next door.

Her interest in others drew her to teaching at a young age and she started her career at the Lorette East school only a mile away from her home. She was so passionate about teaching that she continued to touch the lives of others for over five decades.

When she married Frank, she turned her attention to building a home for them and their son on the Yestrau farmstead in Rosewood. She was thrilled with her new house and loved to garden and have beautiful flowers.

When Jessica and Cassandra joined the family, and later Charlene, her attention was now focused on spoiling her grandchildren. They spent many years enjoying time on the farm, learning how to bake and garden and traveling all over Manitoba to take in the sights.

Outside of teaching, she was a daredevil on a snowmobile, participating in oval track racing throughout Manitoba, including the Canadian Power Toboggan Championships. She excelled in racing becoming Manitoba Women’s Racing Champion in the 70s, won medals in the men’s mod-stock racing and was named ‘the fastest woman on snow’ by a Winnipeg newspaper.

She was an active member of many boards and committees and continued to connect with her community in multiple ways. After leaving the farm she made her home in La Broquerie before moving to the Villa. She enjoyed interacting with friends and generations of past students.

The livestreamed Celebration of Life will be held on Wednesday, September 18, 2024, at 7:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, with a private interment to follow at a later date.

On behalf of our entire family, we would like to express how sincerely grateful we are for the incredible care she received while living at the Villa Youville. The compassion the entire Villa Youville team demonstrates made her final years the best they could be.
