Rowena Elizabeth Holden (née Hora), aged 88, went to be with her Savior, Jesus Christ, on Monday, September 9, 2024. She was a beloved daughter, sister, wife, mother, aunt, grandmother, great-grandmother, and friend who touched the lives of many with her deep faith and unconditional love.
Born the eldest of seven children to Lewis and Joyce Hora, Rowena grew up with a strong sense of family and responsibility. She was a devoted sister to her six siblings, cherishing her role as the eldest. Her sisters Annette and Beverly, brother Dennis, and parents have already met her in heaven, while her remaining siblings, Gordon, Lois, and Barbara, continue to journey on earth until their time comes.
Rowena married the love of her life, James Joseph Holden, on April 17, 1954. Their union was blessed with four children: Holly, Hal (Crystal), Heather (John), and Heath (Debbie). Rowena’s legacy continued through her 12 grandchildren – Michael, Emily (Alex), Patrick (Liz), Margaret (Matt), Alex (Jenna), Keera (Cory), Keeanna, Darby, Nekeesha (Kaleb), Rowena, William, and Reese – and her six great-grandchildren – Maeve, Rowan, Madilyn, Ella, Charis, Arlo, and Mikayla – with many more to come.
A woman of unwavering faith, Rowena was deeply involved in the Christian Women’s Club, where she served in many capacities. Her commitment to sharing her testimony led her to travel between British Columbia and Alberta, spreading the message of Jesus Christ. Through her leadership in Bible studies, she had the privilege of guiding many to know and love her Savior. Rowena’s love for others mirrored the love of Christ, and many loved her in return. She carried on with ministry through Bible study groups and prayer teams in her later years.
Rowena was a beacon of love, faith, and kindness, and her presence will be deeply missed by all who knew her. Though we grieve her passing, we carry with us the profound impact she had on our lives and the love she so freely gave. Her legacy of faith and love will continue to inspire us as we remember her with fondness and gratitude.
Rest in peace, Rowena. You have fought the good fight, finished the race, and kept the faith. We will see you again in heaven.
