Quietly and peacefully, Cornie Thiessen, 87, of Steinbach, MB., slipped away into the arms of God on the afternoon of Wednesday, October 2, 2024, at the Rest Haven Care Home, Steinbach, MB.
Cornie was born in Giroux, MB., one of 11 children. They grew up on the farm (de krim.). Went to school in Ridgewood, his sister Mary was one of his teachers. He left school and began working at CT Loewen, driving truck. Dad and Mom moved to the farm in Hadashville in 1958 and continued to farm fulltime till the early 2000’s. Dad kept some crops for the next few years. Dad stayed on the farm after Mom passed away and reluctantly moved to Oakview Manor in Blumenort. He enjoyed his time with the other tenants. In July of 2023, he fell and broke his hip and spent the next nine months in the Ste. Anne Hospital. His health deteriorated however when he moved to the Rest Haven Care Home he became much happier. He enjoyed spending time with the other residents and developed friendships.
Dad had a strong faith. His prayers at meals always included being grateful for salvation. Dad and Mom supported many ministries. He was not one to get into theological conversations but wanted to ensure that people, his family in particular, knew Jesus and his saving grace. As a family, we are thankful for his concern for us.
Cornie is survived by his four sons and one daughter, Dennis & Yvonne (Kevin & Ashley), Wes & Ginny (Raymond, Eric), Wayne & Marilyn (David & Melanie, their sons Ezra, Titus, Brianna, Anastasia & Riley), Kenton & Lydia (Alysia & Colby, Jediah, EmmyLou, Tikvah, Zach), Lucille & Kenton Penner (Ashley & Joel Thiessen, their daughter, Marina, Megan & Joshua Dueck, Bonnie & Michael Dueck, Ryan).
