Valerie Anne Penner was born in Ste. Anne, Manitoba on February 11, 1959 to her parents, Elvin and Margaret Penner. She went to her heavenly home to be with her Lord on Sunday, October 27, 2024.
Valerie is survived by her mother, Margaret Penner, her two brothers: Travis (Kathy), and Francis; nephews Darryl (Crystal) and Isabella, Troy (Elizabeth) and Emmett and Jackson, Scott (Destiny) and Damon and Jade.
She was predeceased by her father, Elvin Penner.
When she was a young child her parents moved to the Cromer, Manitoba area to farm there. She enjoyed farm life and often was found helping out where she could. From a young age she felt drawn to give her life to God and consequently she accepted Jesus as her Saviour and was baptized as a teen at the Heron Church. She was actively involved in the church youth group and in teaching Sunday School. She kept busy variously working on the farm, at Henrions’ John Deere in Redvers, and at Macleods in Virden.
After some years she made the decision to move back to her roots in the Steinbach area, where she worked at Granny’s for many years. She enjoyed her work but she felt God calling her into serving God in more specific ways. She contacted Operation Mobilization and after some training time she was assigned to work on OM’s Mercy ship. She did this for a couple of years, and then learning of a need in South Africa she journeyed there to serve for a number of years at an orphanage for AIDS children.
After all this she returned to Canada to settle back in Blumenort. She soon found her niche working for home care, which she did until a couple of days before her passing. She established close relationships with her clients, who often expressed their appreciation for her loving care. She also soon found a caring church home at Calvary Chapel where she was able to worship the Lord she loved and made many friends.
Family meant all the world to her and she loved spending time with them, doing house work, reading tons of books, and doing puzzles. She was especially fond of her nephews and their families; they meant a lot to her.
Her passing was sudden and unexpected. She started feeling sick on Thursday and passed away on Sunday. Although parting is painful we rejoice that Valerie loved her Lord and was strong in her faith. We look forward with anticipation and hope to the joyful day when we meet her again.
The livestreamed funeral service will be held on Sunday November 3, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
Interment to follow at Blumenort Community Church Cemetery, Blumenort, MB.
