Our Dad, Papa, and mom’s best friend; Allen Richard Friesen, peacefully gained his angel wings with his family by his bedside on Tuesday, November 26, 2024, at the age of 53.
Dad was born to Edgar & Clarice Friesen on January 27, 1971, in Steinbach, Manitoba. He was the middle of five children, often making mention of this fact. At the age of 12, Dad accepted Jesus into his heart and was baptized on August 21, 1983, into the Church of God in Christ Mennonite by Min. Ronald Wohlgemuth.
Though the struggles were real, Dad fought a good fight and kept the faith. In Dad’s youth he worked at Friendly Family Farms Hatchery and spent evenings doing what he loved, tinkering on cars, eventually starting an auto repair shop.
Dad married our mom, Evelyn Wohlgemuth on July 28, 1996, at Whitemouth, Manitoba. In June 1998, Nicole joined the home and ten months later we moved to Bow Island, Alberta. In Bow Island, Stephanie, Tristan, and Shaylyn completed our home. Dad worked at various jobs until an opportunity opened up for Dad to work at Napa Auto Parts. He spent ten enjoyable years there and made many life-long friendships. Meanwhile, we purchased a property in the countryside and built our forever home. In 2011 Dad was diagnosed with cancer. God blessed us with a miracle and gave us 13 more years with our Dad and husband. In 2017 we moved back to Greenland, Manitoba. The last six years he worked as MUA office manager, making many more friends and acquaintances.
Dad always took time for us children, playing ball, swimming, helping Tristan make a go-kart and so much more. Dad often struggled with feeling like he did not do it good enough, but little did he realize how well he actually did. Dad was always there for us, quietly supporting us. Although we did not have everything, we knew our Dad loved us. He gave us what really mattered.
Dad loved the outdoors. He spent hours planting trees, gardening, and recently trying his best to get their stubborn garden plot to produce at least a few veggies. Dad lived for camping, cooking outdoors, and boating trips with his family. He spent hours tinkering in the garage getting the boat to work again for the next outing. He had a large papa heart, always coming up with new ideas and toys for the grandchildren or planning the next trip to visit them. He often had a humorous comment to add to conversation and loved teasing the littles, making them laugh. Dad was a man of patience and accepted life as it came.
In October Dad started feeling unwell and after a few short weeks we realized his cancer had returned. He was unwavering in his determination to get well and was willing for whatever it took. Dad was looking forward to this Christmas and told us he just wanted a Christmas miracle. We feel Dad did receive his Christmas miracle, just in a different way than we had hoped.
Dad leaves behind a loving family who will miss him dearly, his wife Evelyn; children: Nicole and Clark Loewen and Papa’s grands, Ari and Harper, Glenn, CA; Stephanie and Kyle Toews and Papa’s buddy Xander, Bloomfield, IA; Tristan and Shaylyn of the home; mother Clarice Friesen; siblings: Harlan and Barb, Weldon and Bev, Glenn and Reanne, Karen and Randy Gable; parents-in-law Alfred and Grace Wohlgemuth; in-laws Dale and Frieda, Barb and Harlan Friesen, Susan and Darryl Giesbrecht, Irma and Ron Toews, Edna and Shawn Giesbrecht, Victor and Gwen, Lester and Lisa, and Rosy; special aunt, Dorothy Friesen and many nieces and nephews. He was predeceased by his father and Evelyn’s mother Kathryn Jeanette.
Dad will be deeply missed by his family, friends, and all who knew him. His memory will forever be cherished.
We as a family want to express our appreciation to the family, friends, and HSC staff for the care, love and support.
