Aganetha (Nettie) Hiebert, 96, of Grunthal, MB., formerly of Niverville, passed away on Wednesday, December 11, 2024, at Menno Home for the Aged, Grunthal, MB.
She leaves to cherish her memory her children Tina (Ed) Doerksen, Nettie Hiebert, Anne (Cliff) Omichinski, Ben (Vanessa) Hiebert and Sherryl (Rheal) Perrin as well as two sons-in-law Maurice Poirier and Michel Poirier and many grandchildren, great-grandchildren and great-great-grandchildren. Nettie is also survived by one sister and two sisters-in-law.
Nettie was predeceased by her husband Ben F. Hiebert in 1980, her daughters Esther Poirier in 2015, Lorna Poirier in 2008, her grandson Adam Poirier in 2004 and great-grandson Dominic Weins in 1994.
Nettie was born on November 29, 1928, and grew up in the Silberfeld area near Landmark. She married her sweetheart Ben on June 6, 1948. Shortly after their marriage they moved to Paraguay along with other family members where they lived for just under a year and moved back to Niverville to the family farm. They had seven children and purchased a larger farm and home right next door to the family farm. Mom’s first joy was her family. She taught her children to love the things she loved whether we wanted to or not! Summer was her favourite season and being outside in the garden, having her hands in the dirt and getting things to grow, being on the farm with her family was a joy that she instilled in all of us. Mom didn’t love to cook but boy could she bake the most amazing bread! Coming home on a Friday after school the home smelled so amazing, and you were always allowed to have a fresh bun out of the oven!
One thing that will be missed by her family and friends and all that knew her was her amazing smile! She could light up a room with her smile and make everyone feel welcome! Even when she moved to Menno Home and right to the end everyone told us that she had a beautiful warm smile!
We would like to send a very special thank you to the staff at the Menno Home in Grunthal for their wonderful and compassionate care of our mom for the past seven years. We would also like to say thank you to Birchwood for their kindness and excellent guidance during this time.
The livestreamed funeral service will take place on Friday, December 27, 2024, at 11:00 a.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB., with public viewing one hour prior to the service.
Burial will take place following the reception at Heritage Cemetery, Niverville, MB.
