Obituary

With great sadness we announce the passing of Joseph Timothy Blair, at the age of 67, on Tuesday, December 17, 2024, surrounded by his family at the Health Sciences Centre, Winnipeg, MB., after a brief illness with cancer.

Joe will be lovingly remembered by his wife and soulmate of 37 years, Rachel, son Joshua (Jessica) and their daughters Jenessa and Jordyn, son Brandon and his boys Waylon and Ruston. He also leaves to mourn, his siblings Lynne (Gary) Buell, Robert (Liana) Blair, Donna (Roger) Blanchard, Jan Blair, Christine Henderson, Gerard (Shelley) Blair, and their families. Also left to mourn is mother-in-law Nellie Ostrowsky and brother-in-law Melvin Lischynsk.

Joe was predeceased by his parents Gerald & Iona Blair, brothers Roland and Douglas Blair, nephew Jamie Blair, niece Shannon Blair, father-in-law Peter Ostrowsky, sister-in-law Barbie Lischynski and sister-in-law Ida Ostrowsky in infancy.

Joe was born December 26, 1956, in Winnipeg, Manitoba, and grew up in Stoney Creek, Ontario. He attended school in Stoney Creek and graduated from Bishop Ryan High School.

Joe met Rachel in March of 1985 at a restaurant where she worked, and he married his soulmate on February 14, 1987.

Joe got his class 1 license in 1982 and had various jobs from city delivery to hauling snow and gravel and a season of delivering supplies on the ice roads. But his true calling was driving long distance. He worked for Gershman Produce, N&A Trucking Niverville, but the last 28 years he drove for Arnold Bros Transport.

Joe and Rachel lived in Morris when they first married, then in 1995 moved to Dartmouth Nova Scotia for a year. In 1996 they returned home to live in Senkiw, Manitoba.

Joe’s passion was writing poetry, and from poems he graduated to beautiful songs. He became a music publisher and started doing a yearly concert so he could promote Manitoba artists, first hosting concerts on their yard, then moving them to the Gardenton outdoor stage. These concerts were his happiest time of year. Each year, Joe learned more, and the concerts grew in size. He already had the bands booked for the next concert, so there will hopefully be a concert in tribute to him.

Rachel and his family wish to express gratitude to Dr. Dennis, Dr. Mondor, Dr. Singh, Dr. Dale and nurse Monique from Bethesda Regional Health Centre for the fast and compassionate care. We would also like to thank Dr. Wheeler, Dr. Janower, Dr. Barr, Dr. Ali and especially nurse Joanne for getting us transferred to a nice private room at the Health Sciences Center. Joe, being polite as he was, would thank each and every one of them personally, I think that is why he was always treated so nice.

Joe, we all love you and you will be missed and never forgotten.

The memorial service for Joseph will be held on Saturday, December 28, 2024, at 2:00 p.m., at Birchwood Funeral Chapel, Steinbach, MB.
