Obituary

With immense sorrow we announce the passing of Roy Kolossa, 54 years of age, from Mitchell, MB.

Roy was a beloved husband and father, dedicated son, and a cherished friend to many. He leaves behind to mourn his passing, his wife Diane, his (step) children Gabriel, Adrian, Bethany and son-in-law Brendyn. His parents, Hans and Marbeth, along with their son Kevin, grandson Coleman and wife Diana, and his “second mother” Erna. Also grieving his loss are his parents-in-law, Rene and Agatha, brother-in-law Daniel and sister-in-law Denise and her children. His dog and co-pilot, Ben, will miss his daddy too, along with many other extended family members and friends whom Roy loved.

Roy was a very special person, a true gem. He was a genuine giver with a heart for people. His family and close friends were the most important thing to him in his life, but the spirit of kindness and generosity he embodied extended to all whom he met. Those who had the privilege of knowing him would tell you that never a bad word passed through his lips about anyone, never judged, always compassionate and kind to all. Whether it was family time, worktime or playtime, he was selfless in all that he did, and always made sure he gave back 110%. Roy made sure everyone’s “cup” was full, in every sense of the word, he thought of everyone, took care of everyone, made sure no one was overlooked. He took great pleasure in helping others, because it filled his heart with pride and joy, never expecting anything in return. A stranger was simply a friend he hadn’t met yet, and he had many, many of those who brought joy to his life as well. Once a friend, always a friend, was who Roy was.

The lake at Ingolf was his happy place, and spending time there enjoying and helping his family and friends is one of the beautiful legacies he will leave to bring them comfort. When he wasn’t at the lake, Roy could be found riding or driving anything with an engine, his passion being especially for snowmobiling. Roy, aka Sledhed, dedicated 18 years of his time to raising money for Adult & Teen Challenge, by participating in their Sled for Eternity annual snowmobile ride. He entered the ride in the very first ever Sled for Eternity event 17 years ago, and after witnessing the testimonies at this event of those who had overcome their addictions, he became so inspired that he made a personal commitment to make this event his special charitable mission. Over the next 17 years, he was tireless in trying to recruit as many friends as he could to accompany or support him on the ride, so they could also experience the beauty he found in this cause, the way that he did. A very special thank you to those of his friends and family who will help him finish this year’s campaign and will ride this final run in his honor.

The family of Roy Kolossa wishes to express their gratitude for the many condolences, contributions, flowers and gifts of food from family and friends during this difficult time. A special thank you to those who took care of Roy’s family and affairs for him during the initial passing. The family will be holding a small private ceremony for Roy at a later date and ask for your understanding in respecting their privacy.

Though Roy is only with us in spirit now, Roy’s legacy of brotherly love, joy and generosity will live forever, always remembered in the hearts of those whose lives, while he was here, he touched with his beautiful soul.

“I have fought the good fight, I have finished the race, I have kept the faith” ~ 2 Timothy 4:7

May you rest in peace now, our sweet Roy.
